RR

In the book Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare, the main character Tessa has the least power out of all the characters. The reason is because Tessa has always thought of herself as human and has recently found at that she is almost everything but.  It is 1876 and Tessa has just found out she's a shape-shifter, her brother is kidnapped and that she's one of the most wanted Downworlders (creatures) in the world. There are many reasons for why Tessa has no power in the story.
One of the main reasons Tessa has no power is a very simple one. It is the late 1800s and Tessa is still considered a child. Tessa herself doesn't know if she'd rather be belittled because of her gender or if she feels comfortable going against everything her parents have ever taught her and become a short skirt wearing, beer drinking, swearing woman. Throughout the book Tessa is surrounded by people who think they can either control her because as a woman she has very little power, (old fashioned people); and different people who have outgrown their tradition and culture, a race of demon fighters called shadowhunters which include ferocious fighting woman. People who think Tessa needs to grow up and take a stand, people who push Tessa past her boundaries and end up making her feel uncomfortable.
Also in the book, Tessa has no idea what is going on around her or who anyone is because for her whole life she's been convinced that the only people to walk the earth are the normal, average speed and strength kind. Now Tessa's been pushed into an entirely new world in which she is forced to fight to survive and save her brother. Tessa doesn't where her brother is, and because he is the only family she has left she will do anything to find him. Because of this Tessa has to trust and do everything the Shadowhunters tell her to do.
In conclusion, Tessa has very little power in the book because she doesn't know anything about herself or the people she's surrounded by, and she's a woman and is not listened to by anyone. The people with power in the book are the Shadowhunters, and they prove this by taking advantage of Tess's longing to see her brother again to get control her abilities of changing shape.
