Who has power in your book?
In the book The Host by Stephenie Meyer almost every character has some sort of hold over atleast one other characters but none of them really have power because of how tangled up the whole story is. The person with the most power over the most people is Jeb because he made the caves in which the human rebels live while their world is taken over by aliens.
Many characters have power over others in the story. When Melanie's body is taken over by the alien Wanda she doesn't fade away, rarely does this happen that a human is strong enough to stay after their host has been obtained. In one way Melanie has power over Wanda because she uses her thoughts and memories to take back as much control of her body from Wanda as she can. Yet Wanda also has power over Melanie because she is in control of her body so Melanie doesn't really get a say in anything.
Jeb has the most power in the story because he made the caves in which the last of the human race lives so if her wants to he can just kick someone out. For example, when Kyle threatened to kill Wanda Jeb told him that it wasn't acceptable and that he would kick him out, "my house, my rules." Jeb also controls food rations, sleeping arrangements and chores, in this way he is very important and has a lot of power over the characters in the book because he controls their lives and keeps them alive. Because he's kept them all alive, all the humans in the cave (that make up most of the book characters) are indebted to Jeb and in that way he also has power over them.
In conclusion, many characters in the book The Host have power but some gain it and others come with it. Jeb has the most power because he has the most authority.
