Is this story fair?
The book Clockwork Prince by Cassandra Clare is not fair because during the period of time in which it takes place in, the 1800s, things were a lot more different. There was much less equality back then and many types of actions were frowned upon.
For example in the 1800s, women were not looked upon with the same equality as men were or that women are today. Women were expected to dress in very uncomfortable fashions, and were not supposed to speak their mind or give ideas. For example in the book when Charlotte the head of the Institute goes to speak with a man by the name of Mortmain he is shocked to find how abrupt and forward she is and he goes on to hint that she is rude and that to him her words are of very little importance. In the book, one of the characters, Jessamine is constantly talking about how she wants a suitor and that she shouldn't have to do any work for herself. This is unfair because work should be distributed equally.
In conclusion in the story we see how unfairly women were treated back in the day and because the main character is a young woman herself the story is really quite unfair.
